Welcome. Please enjoy your stay. Unfortunely the author cannot be disturbed today. She has decided it's a day for reflection. And art. (So yes, she's just hiding on the balcony). Mental health day i.e. physical health decay. #crisisintervention @Subhuman #justmoveforward

Art. Wisdom. Psych 4 Beginners.

A heartfelt thanks to all of you. I was creating art, you said "Write!" So here I am. (Between us - I was working! If in a non-contemporary way).

Wise words by Lao Tzu:

"When nothing is done. Nothing is left undone." - Think about it.

More poetic was his words on How to live:

"Simplicity, patience, compassion. These are your greatest treasures. Simple in action and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate towards yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world."

Signs and symptoms of a neurological disorder.

A quick look at Tourette's and PTSD.

Far from being a comprehensive guide, I can share here certain behaviour's indicative of cognitive abnormalities. (If these abrupt your life, please see a medical practitioner.)

Do you often feel as if you are not in control of your actions? Do people point out that you either blink too much or not at all? Are you constantly repeating a motion not necessary at the time. It might be as harmless as a facial tic, without sound. Constantly licking your fingertips, as if they've just been burnt? Playing with your hair? Licking your lips compulsively? Each one act by itself is mostly harmless. Or an expression of unease. Throw them together, constantly, and uncontrollably, you might be looking at a mild case of Tourette's, more specifically SYMPTOMS of Tourette's brought on by anxiety and stress. With the latest therapy now available, this can be controlled. If you feel it does not affect your life negatively, I advise using meditation and NLP. The brain, like every other muscle can be trained and conditioned to overcome these little habits. Put aside time to align the prompts from your brain and spine to reach your extremities. Breathe. Take back control. You know how to do it, just start a daily habit. Listen to your body, it will tell you when things are not working. Use "talk therapy", cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). If the condition worsens, seek a qualified specialist urgently. If your child has these symptoms, seek medical advice. Children have not yet formed the habits we as adults take for granted. Most importantly if you or loved one suffers from the condition, learn to accept yourself. Accepting others will become so much easier.

On the topic, let us quickly look at post-traumatic stress disorder. Known as PTSD. Most of us are aware of it, still a lot of us refuse to recognise the symptoms. Without drafting a thesis on it, let us be honest. At some point in our lives, we experienced trauma. An abusive parent, a divorce, the loss of a beloved friend/ lover/ family member. Moved from one house to another, one country to a different culture. These are the biggest stress events we endure at some point. Yet we underestimate the toll they take.

We think to ourselves "What I am feeling cannot possibly compare to the violence others have endured, the carnage they've witnessed." We think ourselves "soft" - not important enough to allow ourselves the chance to fully understand and accept that our feelings need to be validated. We can live numb and dumb, or we can say the words "I am not okay." Just to ourselves. Loyal friends will expect that. They're just waiting for you. Your devoted friends will wait for you to ask for help. Even then, do not wait so long, that they move on. Not away. Just on with their lives.

To spot PTSD is usually not that hard:

  1. A smell/ noise/ or colour provokes an unwanted behaviour. Note unwanted not, unwarranted.

  2. Repetitive nightmares of an incident - audible hallucinations, tactile memories.

  3. Memory loss, in combination with loss off time.

We do not deal with PTSD by:

  1. Reliving

  2. Avoidance

  3. Hyper-arousal

More on this later, and sincere thanks to all the psychologists and trauma call-centre agents who reminded me of the importance of our mental health. If you are suffering any of these symptoms, I urge you to reach out to the special centres in your vicinity. Join a group, meet with others. You are not alone.

Either I'm psychic, but I could swear I just heard a collective sigh. I know you have searched the internet; you've spoken to your MD's who prescribed some meds. I know. You know. We all know. Do something about it - get help. Stop excusing yourself. Just get better. You've got a pretty head. Show them.

Okay, that's my bye-button.

With much love

Go enjoy the moment. Live, laugh, dream, and inspire. Disrupt, then repair. The responsibility remains yours!
